For the 1984-85 season the powers that be had come up with yet another weird and wonderful formula to determine the fixtures. Anyway for what it's worth this was how the fixtures for the Second Division had been determined for that particular season.
The Second Division comprised 20 clubs playing 28 matches each. The clubs were divided into two groups.

Clubs 11 - 20 played each other home and way.
Clubs 1 -5 played clubs 11 - 15 home and way.
Clubs 6 - 10 played clubs 16 - 20 home and away.
Swinton, Salford, York and Dewsbury gained promotion. Invicta finished next to bottom with 4 wins (8 points). Bridgend finished last with 2 points (1 win).
